The Starless Sea contained so many mysteries and little magical elements that I never got bored reading their descriptions. I think the part that made it so intriguing was that I was genuinely surprised by where each description ended up. Usually, I’m not one for super flowery writing that lacks action, but every word of this book is absolutely gorgeous.
Zahcary’s memory is one of many stories in the book, so he sets out on an adventure to learn more about the others that will lead him to The Starless Sea, an unimaginable library of the world brimming with whimsy and danger. It describes, in vivid detail, a painted door he stumbled upon as a child. Mysteriously, it does not seem to belong to the library, but that isn’t the strangest part: it includes one of Zachary’s memories. Zachary Ezra Rawlins is an ordinary college student heading to the library one day when he finds a very unordinary book. I recently bought my own copy of it, and wanted to do a review based on how I remember liking the book before I dive into it for a second time, so here we go!
I first read The Starless Sea last year, and it almost instantly became my favorite book. This review is going to be a little different.
